Incredible! So much math is involved. So, you really can figure out how to tank better by applying a little arithmetic to your methods. So, the last part was going to be about Tanking Techniques, right?
Asthas: Yes. Even with all of this knowledge you still have to get to the actual performance. So, now you actually have to tank a mob. What do you do?
Warrior tanking, at least in terms of a threat generation cycle, can be simplified into a series of logical if/else statements, similar to a computer program. Basically, it comes down to this.
If Revenge is available, use it. It’s your highest threat per rage, second highest threat per use, all around one of your best threat abilities. Else:
If Shield Slam is available, use it. Like Revenge, but second in threat per rage but highest in threat per use. This step and the last step are pretty interchangeable. Shield Slam is great to use first on a pull due to the raw threat it produces, but revenge has sheer efficiency, making it a better choice to prioritize in the long run. Else:
If there are less than five Sunders, Sunder. It has decent threat, and is better than doing nothing. The armor reduction will amplify your further threat and rage generation, and will set up use of devastate. Else:
If there are five Sunders, Devastate. Now, this step is debatable. Observing bonus threat values, Devastate must hit for 201 damage, on average, to be more threat per use than Sunder, and to be more threat per use than a 12 rage Sunder. (but it's not more threat per rage than a 9 rage sunder until devastate hits for 301, on average). Making it hit for 201 is actually quite easy, and, if you follow my recommended build, your Sunders are still 12 rage, and this makes Devastate superior.
At all times, if you are high on rage, or incoming rage is high, start adding Heroic Strikes as necessary to drain off your rage.
A Tanking Warrior must be in charge of all situations.
My basic tanking rotation would look something like this.
Shield Slam, Revenge, Sunder/Devastate, Sunder/Devastate, repeated, and queuing Heroic Strikes as necessary. Generally, a tank has other things to do, so, you will not be able to maintain this rotation. If possible, fit these other, non-threat generation related actions, like Thunderclap (on a single target) and Demoralizing Shout where Sunder and Devastate are, as they are the weakest part of your threat generation.
